Department of CVTS, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune performed the first ever Heart Transplant at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune on 20th September 2021. Congratulations to respected Hon’ble Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Hon’ble Dr. (Mrs) Bhagyashree P. Patil, Pro Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth and Dr. Yashraj P. Patil, Trustee and Treasurer, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Pimpri, Pune for the first ‘Heart Transplant’. It could happen just because of their big dreams and consistent efforts with big heart to fulfil that. This has certainly added additional pearl to our Institute. We are proud of our esteemed institution and Heart Transplant Team.

The heart was obtained from a brain-dead donor in another hospital and transported to DPU via green corridor. The recipient is 33 years old, father of 2 children who was admitted almost 3 months back in our hospital with intractable cardiac failure. He required constant cardiac support medication to sustain him. The heart was made available on night of 19 Sep. 2021 and entire DPU team immediately swung into action ensuring complete medical and logistic readiness. The heart was retrieved at 12.15 pm and successful transplant done at DPU. Patient was shifted to CVTS Recovery at 6 pm.

The CVTS team involved in this landmark operation is Dr. Anurag Garg (HOD CVTS), Dr. Ashish Dolas , Dr. Smruti Hindaria and Dr. Ranjit Pawar , all surgeons. Cardiac Anaesthesia team comprised Dr. Vipul Sharma and Dr. Sandip Junghare.
